In a strategic move aimed at fostering international collaboration in the realm of touch football, David Diack has recently joined both Melbourne Touch6s and Sri Lanka Touch Footy. His involvement is driven by the recognition of the benefits that arise from the participation of more nations in the Federation of International Touch.
David, drawing from over 12 years of experience in Victorian pathways programs, expresses enthusiasm for the opportunity provided to Sri Lankan touch players. His focus lies in realizing their dreams of representing their country on the touch football stage.
Formerly engaged with Touch Football Victoria within the Game Development sector, David’s efforts centered around creating increased opportunities for both male and female players, particularly within club and school settings.
A significant milestone in David’s touch football journey was his participation in the Masters Mixed division at the 2023 National Touch League (NTLs). Despite a narrow defeat in the final, losing 5-4 to the Defence Warriors in the 39th minute, the experience has further fueled David’s commitment to the sport.
Looking forward to 2024, David aims to deepen his involvement in Sri Lankan touch footy, assuming the role of Team Manager. Concurrently, he actively contributes to Melbourne Touch6s, an arena that transcends traditional tournament norms. Functioning under the standard NRL Touch Football Australia rules, Melbourne Touch6s emphasizes inclusivity and camaraderie. It serves as a unique sporting platform, bringing together Sri Lankan school football clubs in Australia and local teams across three vibrant cities: Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide.
David Diack’s commitment to the global expansion of touch football is poised to make a significant impact. As the 2024 season unfolds, his role in both Melbourne Touch6s and Sri Lanka Touch Footy is expected to contribute substantially to the growth and popularity of touch football internationally.
